The Police Department is headed by the Chief, who is the commanding officer of the police force. The Chief directs the police work of the City and is responsible for the enforcement of law and order. Chief Frank Nastasi has led the Troy Police Department since 2018. The Professional Standards & Training Section reports directly to the Chief of Police.
Operations Division
The primary function of the Operations Division is responding to calls for service, detecting and preventing crime, and conducting initial incident and crime scene investigations. The Operations Section is functional 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year. The Operations Division includes Road Patrol, Evidence Technician Unit, K-9 Unit, Tactical Support Team, Crisis Negotiation Team, Field Training, Traffic Safety Specialists, Directed Patrol Unit, and Retail Liaison Officers.
Investigative Services Division
Investigative Services Division consists of all investigative and many support elements of the Department. This section works with numerous federal, state, county, and local law enforcement and public service agencies. The Investigative Services Division includes Criminal Investigations, Special Investigations Unit, Criminal Intelligence Unit, Task Forces, Community Services Section, School Resource Officers,
Administrative Division
The Administrative Division includes the Communications Section, Lock-Up Section, Records Section, Property Section, Research & Technology Section, and Honor Guard.
Training Section
The Training Section develops, schedules, and presents the police department's training, including firearms, non-lethal options, first aid, defensive tactics, emergency vehicle operations, and legal updates. The Training Section also assists in the operation of the City's Police and Fire Training Center and oversees upcoming training courses offered to outside law enforcement agencies.
Community Policing
The Troy Police Department employs a community policing, problem-solving approach in both enforcement and prevention efforts.
In Memory
Four Troy Police Officers have died in the line of duty. Officer Charles E. Smetana, Officer Martin D. Chivas, Officer Charles Mulvihill, and Officer William McCabe will always be remembered for their service and sacrifice to our community.
Department History
The Troy Police Department traces its history back to July of 1952. Today, it is a full-service agency with more than 100 sworn officers and 50 civilian personnel.
