New officers start with 4 weeks of vacation on your first day, and an additional 160 hours of leave time a year. Pay & Benefits
Entry level police officers will start out earning $73,025. A lateral police officer with two years of experience will start out at $80,771. Maximum salary is $88,000.
There are ample opportunities for overtime and extra duty assignments. (Salaries are as of July 1, 2023).

Special Units
With 23 special units and assignments, Troy officers enjoy opportunities to grow throughout their career. Our specialized assignments include Criminal Investigations, K9, Community Services, Tactical Support Team, Criminal Intelligence Unit, Task Forces (DEA, FBI, etc.), School Resource Officer, Traffic Safety, Training Unit, Surveillance, Evidence Technician, Directed Patrol, Hazmat, Drone Operator, Mobile Field Force, Honor Guard and Crisis Negotiation Team.

Training
Troy PD equips officers with excellent training and quality equipment in order to the serve the community in the best way possible. We have an in-house, full time training unit and modern training facilities including an onsite shooting range. Each Troy officer receives an average of at least 40 hours of training per year.

Civilian Careers
Troy PD non-sworn and civilian employees play a vital role in keeping the community safe. The Troy Police Department has a modern Communications Center staffed by skilled professionals called communications supervisors and police service aides. We also have an in-house lock up facility staffed by police service aides.
