The Engineering Department deals with the infrastructure and records of Troy pertaining to water mains, sanitary sewers, storm drains, paving, new construction, surveying, design, right-of-way, floodplain information, soil erosion, permits, and administration. They are the liaison with Federal, State, and County agencies and other cities to implement projects; liaison with developers to implement the public improvements for new residential, commercial, and industrial developments; and liaison with utility companies for private utility construction in City right-of-way.
The Engineering Department sets the standards and specifications for new developments and reviews plans and inspects construction to protect the public interest. Surveying and Inspection Services conducts surveys for the design and construction of public improvements; contributes to the development of the City's Geographic Information System; conducts surveys for the investigation of drainage problems; and inspects the construction of private utilities for compliance with City requirements.
