The mission of the City Clerk's Office is to expeditiously provide accurate and courteous response to all requests for service or information, and to be sensitive to the individual needs of citizens.

The City Clerk's Office provides clerical service to the City Council both in the preparation of its agendas and taking minutes of its meetings.
As official keeper of the records, original minutes of all meetings of Council and Boards and Committees are kept and archived by the Clerk. Birth and death records are kept for all events occurring in the City, and certified copies are made available to those eligible to purchase them.
Licenses such as dog, business, Christmas tree lots, amusement places and devices, taxicabs, peddlers, and sidewalk sales are issued in the Clerk's Office along with the filing of all petitions, lawsuits, subpoenas, and Freedom of Information requests.
The Clerk's Office conducts all elections in accordance with State and Federal law. The Clerk also administers the Oath of Office to all City Officials, Police Officers and State appointments, as requested, and provides notary service (some fees may apply for notary service).

- In 2008 we will see the first presidential election since 1928 in which there are no White House incumbents seeking election. The City Clerk's Office expects an 85% voter turnout due to this election, approximately 46,000 voters in one day. That's 5,000 more people than capacity at Comerica Park.
