The primary function of the City Treasurer’s Office is property tax billing and the collection, deposit and safe-guarding of all City of Troy receipts.  As a common point of contact to our residents, business owners and other interested parties, our mission is friendly, thorough, professional service.

On this site, you will find information about payment and receipt options, automatic payment of water/sewer bills, current and delinquent property taxes and summer tax bill deferment.

U.S. MAIL

  • POSTMARKS ARE NOT ACCEPTED.
  • Include payment coupon.
  • Use the envelope provided (tax and water/sewer only).
  • Write the Parcel ID Number (tax), Account # (water/sewer) or Invoice # on your check or money order.
  • Check payable to City of Troy.
  • Allow ample time for postal delivery.

CREDIT CARD, DEBIT CARD OR E-CHECK
  • There is a 3% fee for credit and debit cards ($1.50 minimum); or a $3 flat fee for an e-check (electronic check) up to $10,000; $10 for $10,000 or more.
  • www.troymi.gov/onlinepayments or 1-855-375-7381 by phone (this is an automated teller).
                      Note:  For an additional $5 fee, you may reach a Personal Teller at 1.877.495.2729.


ONLINE PAYMENT THROUGH YOUR BANK
  • A separate payee should be set up for tax, water and miscellaneous billing invoices, as each has a different remittance address and requires a different reference.  For remittance addresses, see "U.S. MAIL" above.  
  • Reference either your Parcel I.D. Number (tax), Account # (water/sewer) or Invoice #.
  • Allow ample time for postal delivery, in case a paper check is issued by your bank.

OFFICIAL DROP BOXES LOCATED AT CITY HALL
  • Check or money order only.
  • These red and blue boxes, labeled “CITY OF TROY OFFICIAL DROP BOX,” are located outside the east (walk-up) and west (drive-up) entrances to City Hall at 500 W Big Beaver Road.
  • Payments in the Official Drop Boxes before 8:00am on the business day following the due date are considered on-time.

IN PERSON - TREASURER'S OFFICE AT CITY HALL
  • Monday - Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm.  Please bring entire bill/statement.
  • Check, money order, credit/debit card and cash accepted.  There is a 3% fee for credit and debit cards ($2.00 minimum).


RECEIPT OPTIONS

CLEARED CHECK
  • If paying by personal check, your cleared check, which can be viewed/printed from your bank’s website, is always the best receipt, as it is proof that the funds were successfully transferred from your account to the city’s account.

  • Provide a self-addressed, stamped envelope, either with your payment or separately, by mailing it to our physical address or placing it in one of the OFFICIAL DROP BOXES at City Hall, and a receipt will be mailed to you.  Our physical address is:  TREASURER'S OFFICE, 500 W BIG BEAVER, TROY, MI  48084.

  • A tax bill, showing payments applied and balance due, can be printed from our website:
            Go to www.troymi.gov/bsaonline, then Search Tax and Water/Sewer Accounts

  • Homeowners must first register in order to view information free of charge. Hover over down-arrow in top right corner, then click Register, or select Register in the ACCOUNT box at bottom left side of the page.
  • Sign in, then search by address, name or parcel #.  Click on the line item.
  • Select the Tax Information tab, then scroll down to the Tax History section, and click the arrow next to the season.  Scroll down and click the “Click here for your Tax Bill” box.  Payments applied and balance due are displayed at the bottom right.  This form can be saved as a PDF (upper right corner).

AUTOMATIC PAYMENT OF WATER/SEWER BILL
  • Payment is automatically withdrawn on the due date, from a checking or savings account.
  • There is no fee for this service.

Note:  The City of Troy does not currently offer automatic payment of property tax bills.



PROPERTY TAX INFORMATION

Summer property taxes are mailed July 1, and are payable through September 1st4% penalty and .5% interest are added after September 1st.  An additional .5% interest is added the first day of each month.
  
Winter property taxes are mailed December 1, and are payable through February 14th3% penalty is added after February 14th.

On March 1,  all current year unpaid property taxes were transferred to Oakland County, with additional fees and interest applied.  Payments must be made to Oakland County Treasurer - please see "DELINQUENT PROPERTY TAX INFORMATION" below for more information.

  • To print a tax bill, and/or verify that a tax payment has been made:

Failure to receive a tax bill does not waive penalty or interest.

In addition to City taxes, the City of Troy collects and distributes property taxes for the seven school districts serving Troy, Oakland County, Huron-Clinton Metropolitan Authority, Oakland County Art Institute Authority, Oakland County Zoological Authority, Oakland County Public Transportation Authority, Oakland Schools and Macomb Intermediate School District.  Click the “Millage Rates” link (above-left in green box) for more information.

If you receive a bill for a home that has been sold, please call our Assessing Department at 248.524.3311.

Tax law holds the homeowner responsible for property tax payment.  If any changes are made with a lending institution, follow-up to verify that the taxes have been paid – see bullet point above: “To print a tax bill, and/or verify that a tax payment has been made:”



DELINQUENT PROPERTY TAX INFORMATION
  • All current-tax-year unpaid property taxes become delinquent on the following March 1, and are payable to OAKLAND COUNTY TREASURER, with additional fees and interest.
  • During the month of March, payments for the most recent year of delinquent taxes must include an Oakland County Revised Statement, and made payable to OAKLAND COUNTY TREASURER (see below).  For an Oakland County Revised Statement, please email your request to City of Troy Treasurer’s Office at Treasury@troymi.gov.
  • For all delinquent tax payments made April 1st and later, contact the Oakland County Treasurer for an up-to-date amount owing, and pay OAKLAND COUNTY TREASURER (contact info below).

SUMMER TAX DEFERMENT

The Summer Tax Deferment extends the due date for the summer taxes to February 14th, for eligible individuals.  To qualify, your household income must not exceed $40,000, and you must meet one of the following requirements:

  • 62 years of age or older
  • Paraplegic, hemiplegic or quadriplegic
  • Totally and permanently disabled or blind
  • Eligible service Person, veteran, eligible widow or widower

Persons eligible for deferment of summer taxes may get an application by clicking the link below, or by calling the Treasurer’s Office at 248.524.3333.  The completed application, along with a copy of your previous year’s Homestead Property Tax Credit Form, must be received in the Treasurer's Office by September 15th.
