The department, staffed by over 100 sworn officers and 75 civilian employees, plays a crucial role in safeguarding Oakland County's largest community.

The Employed Police Recruit position provides an unparalleled opportunity to become an integral part of the Troy Police Department while attending the Police Academy. Successful completion of the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES) Basic Police Academy is a prerequisite for activation to a sworn Police Officer position within our esteemed department.

Key Highlights of the Employed Police Recruit Position:

Sponsorship for Academy Training: The City of Troy is committed to investing in the professional development of its recruits. We will cover all required tuition, course fees, equipment, and uniforms associated with Police Academy training.

Competitive Starting Salary: starting salary of $43,942 per year. Once activated, Police Officers will receive a starting salary per 2023-2026 Troy Police Officers Association Collective Bargaining Agreement (currently: $73,025/yr.)

Comprehensive Benefits Package: From the effective date of hire, recruits will have access to excellent medical, dental, and vision insurance. Additionally, the Troy Police Department offers a generous paid vacation, personal and sick leave package. The retirement plan includes a 401a and Retiree Health Savings plan with employer contributions.
